Before reviewing the TEA Accountability Ratings below, we strongly recommend you review Accountability in Texas Public Education This report calls the entire rating system into serious question, having found 38% of First Graders at "Exemplary" Campuses still reading below grade level. Also, please see So Your Child is in an Exemplary School?At best, these ratings should be taken with a large grain of salt.
In addition to the individual school ratings, listed below, TEA rates districts. PISD earned a "Recognized" rating in 2000. This rating is based on meeting Base Indicator criteria, as well as additional performance indicators. Briefly, the base indicators are as follows:

¹Each criterion must be met by the students as a whole, and within each group (Black, white, etc.)
²If a district or campus would be rated Academically Unacceptable/Low-performing solely because of a dropout rate exceeding 5.5% for a single student group (not all students), then the district or campus will be rated Academically Acceptable/Acceptable if that single dropout rate is less than 10.0%, and has declined from the previous year.
