In survey after survey, Americans agree that our public schools are failing. American students' ranking in every international comparison, and long-term trends in standardized tests support this sentiment.

PISD parents can rightly take pride in their own children's performance on standardized tests. It is above average. However, in terms of philosophy and curriculum, PISD is no different from any other district in the country. PISD wholeheartedly accepts the most widely known trends (and failed trends) in American public education - such as whole language reading instruction, fuzzy math and integrated curriculum. None of these things is innovative, supported by research, or good for our kids.

A science experiment that was censored by the student's school. What do you think of it?

TADD - This link (outside the USP) is an alternative to the proposed TEKS - written by teachers who were fed up with the touchy-feely, whole-language, "learner-centered" approach espoused by the TEA (and PISD) We recommend you download the document and read it for yourself. It has been endorsed by E.D. Hirsch.

Block Scheduling - This link (outside the USP) is a very comprehensive overview of the problems with block scheduling.

PACE - PISD's PACE evaluation for (report card) is fairly pointless - as is the program. Judge for yourself.
